Jackson Parks and Outdoors Travel Tips

  • Who can match this backdrop? Yellowstone National Park is to the north, wild and remote Wind River Range over Togwotee Pass to the east, and the Tetons are smack dab in front of you. If there's anything you want to do in the outdoors, you can do it here.
  • Hike behind the Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park along the Willow Flats Trail to look out on Christian Pond. Trumpeter swans are known to nest here, and soras, sandhill cranes, and snipes are often in the area as well.
  • The Snake River is easily accessible throughout Grand Teton National Park (but less so throughout private property south of the park). Anglers love it for the views, tremendous hatches, and the indigenous Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat.
  • Snap on a Stetson and saddling up on a day or overnight horsepack. You'll ride old logging roads and narrow, dirt trails through the Bridger-Teton National Forest, camp out in tents or wagons, and learn a little cowboy lore and ropework if you like.

  • My spouse and I would like to spend 3-4 days doing day hikes in the Grand Teton/Jackson area, then come back in the evening to a pleasant, peaceful, lodging that is couples-friendly (our nest has just emptied, so we'd like a break from the frenetic "family vacation" crowd). We would be arriving the week after Labor Day. Any suggestions on hiking and lodging?
