  • Stump-jump along one of Spokane's 23 singletrack mountain-biking trails, ranging in difficulty from "flat and paved" to "cliffs ahead!"
  • Don't be fooled by the name. The Knitting Factory is actually a 1,500-seat concert venue that draws national acts like Modest Mouse and Flogging Molly.
  • Take a guided kayaking tour on eastern Washington and neighboring northern Idaho's serene rivers and lakes.
  • Camp at Mount Spokane State Park ($19 per night for a standard campsite) in the Selkirk Mountains. On clear summer days, you can see into Canada from the top of the 5,883-foot peak.
  • See Spokane Falls up close on the SkyRide, a 15-minute gondola ride that leaves from Riverfront Park.
  • Golf on the cheap at one of Spokane's four municipal courses. Indian Canyon ranks as Golfweek's No. 20 municipal course, and costs as little as $27 for 18 holes.

Spokane is the second-largest city in Washington, the largest city between Seattle and Minneapolis, and a center for both commercial and cultural pursuits. While Spokane is a very pleasant city with a beautiful park, excellent museum, a downtown historic district, great hotels, and excellent restaurants, it isn't really a tourist destination.
