Turquoise Coast Sailing Travel Tips

  • You'll hear a lot about taking a "blue cruise" or "blue voyage" along the Turquoise Coast. Although the term can mean a few different routes, it usually refers to a sailing tour starting in Didim, Kusadasi, or Bodrum and terminating in the port of Antalya.
  • Most yacht charters along the Turquoise Coast are on gulets, traditional and handsome wooden Turkish sailing vessels. They typically come with motors, crews, and meals. Cabin charters mean you just rent out a cabin on a yacht with other paying passengers.
  • The low-key village of Göcek is the yachting center of the Turquoise Coast, with a handful of marinas, several charter companies, and a large gulf with many bays and coves to explore.
  • The meltemi refers to strong and dry north winds that blow along southwest Turkey from mid-May to mid-September. Although they can make for consistent sailing breezes, at times they can come out of nowhere quickly and fiercely and present a hazard.

Beach Overview: Turquoise Coast, Turkey

Not surprisingly, the Turquoise Coast is a major yachting destination, with many tourists taking a "blue cruise" or "blue voyage" on a traditional wooden gulet sailboat for a few days to a few weeks. No matter where you go, there will be beaches, nestled between rolling hills, in small coves lined by pine forests. And underwater enthusiasts will find themselves in heaven on the Turquoise Coast, with World War II wrecks in The Gulf of Antalya and submerged caves in The Gulf of Fethiye. Read More
