Zanzibar Beach Travel Tips

Just six degrees south of the equator, Zanzibar's temperatures are pretty consistent throughout the year. June through October are the cooler and drier months with temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and less humidity than other times of year.
On Zanzibar's eastern coast, waves break over offshore coral reefs and sand bars, and tides are more pronounced with small pools of starfish and anemones. On the popular northern end of the island, tides are less dramatic and the shallows more sandy, which makes for better swimming.
Although Zanzibar is generally safe for tourists, take the usual precautions when visiting beaches, especially isolated stretches. Keep your valuables safe and out of view and be aware of your surroundings.
Although a Muslim region, Zanzibar tolerates bikinis on its beaches; but in respect to the local culture, it's best not to be too scantily clad off the sand.

Zanzibar has some of the best beaches in Africa, with wide swathes of postcard-perfect sand, lined with coconut palms and bleach-white sand bars that mysteriously rise out of the ocean during low tide, making perfect private beaches. Wooden dhow boats drift by, and the coal reefs are excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving. First and foremost, it is nature that lures visitors to these islands, which are surrounded by impossibly sparkling waters and a vibrant underwater world.
