  • St. Lucia is as mountainous below the sea as it is above, with vertical features like the Keyhole Pinnacles. These four seamounts rise from the ocean depths to within a few feet of the surface.
  • Anse Chastanet on the southwest coast is one of the best dive spots on the island. It can be entered directly from a black sand beach, eventually plunging down to 140 feet. In addition to the excellent coral formations, there are shipwrecks and even a mysterious creature referred to as “The Thing" (St. Lucia’s Loch Ness monster).
  • Off the southern coast lies the Waiwinette freighter. This wreck site 90 feet below the surface is recommended for experienced divers only because of the strong currents.
  • Many hotels have scuba centers within them: the southwest coast has the biggest and most experienced ones. Some properties offer scuba classes in their pools to non-guests.

  • Would you recommend getting a car rental for a week(or cab it) if you plan to visit beaches, volcano, hike the Petit Piton, eat out? Which is more economically feasible? Thanks so much!
