Saint Lucia Travel Guide

St. Lucia (Loo-sha) is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, with some of its finest resorts. The heaviest tourist development is concentrated in the northwest, between the capital, Castries, and the northern end of the island, where there's a string of white-sand beaches. Read More

  • Q:

Would you recommend getting a car rental for a week(or cab it) if you plan to visit beaches, volcano, hike the Petit Piton, eat out? Which is more economically feasible? Thanks so much!

      A:

I guess it depends on how many people you plan on going to St. Lucia with. If there are more than 2 of you, taxis are not a bad idea. They aren't metered, but rather fixed prices. Splitting the bill more than 2 ways will definitely cut down on costs. However, if you do plan on doing various activities, then, yes, a rental car is the better way to go. Visit http://stlucia-guide.info/getting.around/rental.cars/ for a list of rental car/taxi companies and for general prices.

  • Q:

We love to explore islands, but are staying at Rodney Bay. Want to visit volcano, zip line, hike one of the Pitons and possible eat at restaurant at Ladera. Would you recommend renting a car for a week or just on a daily basis or using cabs. Which would be most cost effective? Thanks!

Since you will be visiting a lot of different sites, I feel that renting a car for the week would be the most cost effective. Visit http://stlucia-guide.info/getting.around/rental.cars/ for a list of car rental companies and check out the rates for cabs.

  • Q:

shopping for jewelry in St Lucia

I haven't seen anything about shopping in St. Lucia. Do they have a special stone or something that you can only get in St. Lucia in jewelry?

      A:

I suspect you're thinking of St. Lucia for shopping and jewelry not because of an indigenous mineral or stone but because the island offers duty-free prices at many of its stores, catering to the many cruise-ship passengers who pass through. You can find some more info at: http://www.stlucia.org/services/shopping.asp
