Huelva, capital of the beautiful province of the same name, is itself rather ugly and industrial. For those heading west into bordering Portugal, the area makes a good stopover for at least 2 nights. Many history buffs also come here, for it was from this region that Columbus gathered men to sail with him on his voyage to the New World. The explorer's devotees can explore the monastery at La Rábida and also visit the bay from which the explorer set sail at Palos de la Frontera.
