Cape Town Windsurfing Travel Tips

  • Windsurfers and kiteboarders around the world love Cape Town for its consistent southeasterly winds. But even on days when the southeasterlies don’t blow, thermal winds may pick up in the late afternoons.
  • There are at least a dozen fine windsurfing spots around Cape Town, but one local favorite is Platboom Beach in the middle of Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. The water is glassy, the surrounding landscape picturesque, and conditions can be challenging in a good way.
  • Cape Town is home to a surfer and windsurfer hostel, The Cape Surf Hostel, near Bloubergstrand Beach. It offers excellent views and proximity to top-notch windsurfing spots.

  • Don't just hang out at the Waterfront Mall. the prices are super expensive. So go out in the city and hang out where the locals hang out. The people are super friendly so you should be able to find someone to ask... you'll end up saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
