Culebra Beach Travel Tips

  • Culebra has a fleet of "publicos" (public vans), but most travelers find it easier to hire a rental car or bike to get to Culebra's far-flung beaches.
  • Watch out for swarms of mosquitoes on Culebra, especially during the rainy season from August to November.
  • A good snorkeling beach is the isolated and gorgeous Zoni Beach, a one-mile strip on the island's northeastern edge, about seven miles from Dewey (Puebla). It's easily one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

With a population of around 2,000, Culebra lies about 18 miles off the western edge of Puerto Rico. Twenty-three tiny islets surround it like a constellation: all are classified as nature reserves—the earliest established by Theodore Roosevelt way back in 1909—where scores of nesting turtles and migrating birds seek refuge.   • I'M LOOKING FOR A INTIMANT AUTHENTIC BEACH DESTINATION WITH MUSIC AND BAR ON BEACH AT NIGHT. GOOD MELLOW DANCIE NIGHTLIFE. COULD BE ANYWHERE AT THIS POINT. THIS IS FOR JULY. NICE VILLA ATMOSPHERE YET NOT TO FAR FROM EVERYTHING.
