Palau Sailing Travel Tips

  • Palau's Rock Islands are a sailor's dream. The mushroom-shaped islets are uninhabited and are all inside a main barrier reef, making for calm waters. However, you'll want to watch your keel along the shallow coral reefs near the islands themselves.
  • The high tourist season runs from November through June, when the prevailing winds and waves are out of the northeast, keeping most of the dive spots protected. From July through October, winds blow from the southwest.
  • A nice way to combine sailing with diving is by chartering the Eclipse for a week through Palau Sea Ventures. Eclipse is a 48-foot sloop that comes with its own captain, dive master, and equipment.

The Republic of Palau, located in the western Pacific, southeast of The Philippines, makes up one of the most unique island groups in the world. Mushroom-shaped limestone isles smothered in green look as though they were scooped up with a spoon and plopped into the neon-green and blue waters. Around every turn, you'll find bleach-white beaches devoid of human footprints.
