  • The Cove Palisades State Park is near Culver and Madras in the central part of the state, located on the waters and surrounding lands of Lake Billy Chinook, a reservoir of the Crooked, Deschutes, and Metolius rivers.
  • Lake Billy Chinook is a very popular area and weekend pressure can be heavy; try to come on a weekday when the crowds thin out.
  • Kokanee, large- and smallmouth bass, and many trout species are all good reasons to bring your pole to Lake Billy Chinook. The lake is best known for its bull trout.
  • The Crooked River and Deschutes arms of the lake are open year-round. To fish on Metolius arm, buy a tribal angling permit at The Cove Palisades Marina, and find out about the regulations, since it has a limited season.
  • The park offers marina access to Lake Billy Chinook with watercraft rentals, fishing, day use and picnic areas, and hiking trails. There are also two full-service campgrounds and rental cabins.
  • Two floating restrooms are located for boaters and anglers off the Kettle Falls area near the Round Butte Dam and along the Deschutes arm below the Lower Deschutes Day-Use area.
