  • This freshwater lake, straddling the New York/Vermont state line and extending into Canada, has 587 miles of shoreline. With 80 islands among its 435 square miles, this huge body of water has innumerable accesses for anglers. Licenses from either state allow for fishing most of the lake.
  • The lake has five distinct areas with differing aquatic habitats and over 80 species of fish. This variety is the reason it is the most diverse fishery in New England. Popular warm water species include large- and smallmouth bass, crappie, panfish, northern pike, and walleye; coldwater species include landlocked salmon and brown trout. Anglers also vie for drum, catfish, bowfin, and gar.
  • Angling has a real presence on the lake, as represented by the high number of fishing events and tournaments, bait and tackle shops, and fishing charters for hire.
