"Discovered" in 1609 by explorer Samuel de Champlain, Vermont's hard-to-miss Lake Champlain has progressed from being an important trade and transport corridor to a favorite recreational haven for boaters, swimmers, and those simply after some plain ol' relaxin'. At 120 miles long and 12 miles across at its widest point (near Burlington), two-thirds of the lake fill Vermont, with the rest covering New York and small slice of Canada.
