  • Lick your chops at Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbeque on West 22nd Street. It's home to the world-famous molasses-sweet KC-style barbeque.
  • Stay dry while scoping out the 200 fountains operating throughout the city. The most famous are the Henry Wollman Bloch Fountain at Union Square (its jets shoot water 232 feet into the air) and the bronze horses of the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain on Main Street. Another famed fountain adorns the outfield wall at the Kansas City Royals' Kauffman Stadium.

Established as a trading post in 1821, Kansas City served as the starting point for wagon trains heading over the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon trails and later emerged as the nation's center for cattle stockyards and slaughterhouses.
