Puerto Vallarta Beach Travel Tips

Dig your toes in the white sands of Playa de los Muertos, the best beach in town. Its mellow surf, nearby restaurants, and family activities offer something for everyone.
Unravel a towel wherever you please—Mexico's beaches are entirely public. Tow a chair from your hotel or seek shade beneath a restaurant palapa.
Car rentals are available for trips to outlying beaches, but be prepared for town traffic. Whenever possible, walk.
Blue Chairs, the southern area of Playa de los Muertos, is a popular destination for gay travelers.
Window shop along cobblestone streets lined with cheery, Spanish-style homes in Puerto Vallarta's pleasant colonial area.
Remember that northern roads on the coast lead to the state of Nayarit and, more importantly, the Mountain Time Zone!

Puerto Vallarta includes more than 40 miles of coastline on the wide expanse of Banderas Bay, from San Francisco on the north shore to Mismaloya on the south shore, and this entire area is known as Costa Vallarta. There are dozens of beaches, from small stretches of sand in romantic, away-from-it-all coves (accessible only by boat or water taxi) to broad crescents cradling the bay. Some, like Sayulita and San Francisco, are famous for surfing. Others sit at the edge of the jungle, where they provide the scenic view of modern high-rise hotels built at the sand's edge. Read More

This will be my third trip to Puerto Vallarta and while there we have taken snorkeling tours to Los Arcos. We enjoy this tour and will do it again this visit but we are wondering if there is any place to snorkel off the beach in PV. My husband is an experienced snorkeler, however I am new to it and I need more practice in shallow water off the beach. Any information you could share would be appreciated. Thank you. Sue Alley
