Cape Cod Travel Tips

  • The 40-mile seashore boasts some of the world's most beautiful white sand beaches. Buried deep in the New England sand is the story of the Mayflower and America's first settlement at Plymouth, dating back nearly 400 years.
  • Campgrounds, both public and private, abound on the Cape, but there is no camping at the Cape Cod National Seashore itself. Typically, the private campgrounds offer more amenities, but public campgrounds are more isolated and closer to nature. Regardless of where you camp, you are likely to encounter poison ivy and ticks. Learn to identify the former and search for the latter. Long pants and bug spray are a must.
  • You can surf cast for bluefish, bonito, and striped bass from Pamet Beach, Coast Guard Beach, and Nauset Beach. Race Point is another good access.
  • Stellwagon Bank, nine miles off Provincetown, is a marine sanctuary for whales. Humpback, finback, and minke whales feed on the rich sources of microscopic plankton found here.
  • You can learn more about the history of whaling at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the world's largest museum dedicated to the subject. One of only three skeletons of a blue whale in the world is on display here. Also, check out the Cape Cod Maritime Museum in Hyannis, covering all things seaward.

Cape Cod Travel Guide

Cape Cod is a curling peninsula only 70 miles long that encompasses hundreds of miles of beaches and more freshwater ponds than there are days in the year. These days, more than 5 million visitors flock from around the world each year to enjoy nature's nonstop carnival, a combination of torrid sun and cool, salty air. Read More

  • We live in Toronto and I would like to take my family for a week's vacation in Cape Cod this September. My wife and I have a 4 year old boy who loves all things related to the ocean (whales, sharks, rays, coral etc.) so I thought the Cape might be a good idea. Any recommendations are welcome. Ideally, on the ocean with reasonable driving access to sites and activities.
