Little Cayman Scuba Diving Travel Tips

  • Little Cayman is truly an eat, sleep, and dive kind of island. This low-lying rock has less than 200 permanent residents, and much of its limited land remains undeveloped. But just a few feet off the shore, the diversity of life staggers the mind. Best of all, many of the island's premier dive and snorkel spots can be accessed right from the beach.
  • Bloody Bay Wall, along the north shore, starts in just 25 feet of water and drops off quickly to more than 6,000 feet. More than 50 dive sites inhabit the Bloody Bay Marine Park, comprising one of the richest coral reef environments in the world.
  • Save up some energy during the day and make a dive once the sun goes down. Many of the shallow, near-shore reefs make great night dives, but an evening exploration of Little Cayman's only shipwreck, the Soto Trader, will excite with a profusion of nocturnal activity: Watch for lobsters, squid, and octopuses cruising the decks and schools of squirrelfish making their rounds.

Little Cayman Travel Guide

The smallest of the Cayman Islands, cigar-shaped Little Cayman has only about 130 permanent inhabitants, so nearly everybody you'll see will be a visitor, most often from the States. Little Cayman is 16km (10 miles) long and about 1.6km (a mile) wide at its broadest point. Electricity didn't make it here until 1990, and phone service didn't arrive until 1991. Little Cayman lies about 109km (68 miles) northeast of Grand Cayman and some 8km (5 miles) from Cayman Brac. The entire island is coral and sand.
