This is the leading moderately priced choice in town. In the 1600s, this palace was built near the Castello d'Estense. It was transformed into one of the most prestigious hotels in town in 1861, but during World War II, portions of the rear were bombed and then repaired in a less grandiose style. The government-rated three-star place continues today, with a well-trained staff, reasonable prices, and guest rooms that are clean and comfortable, with antique furnishings and modern comforts. A handful of rooms overlook the corso (they retain ceiling frescoes from the original construction). The bathrooms are small.
