This classy resort is a labor of love for two Texan couples who searched Central America for a perfect spot to build their long dreamed-about tropical retreat. Now it's the guests who have to pinch themselves to be sure they're not dreaming: Tranquilo Bay provides deluxe accommodations and warm professional service in the midst of a secluded location that's practically bursting with flora, fauna, and adventurous activities. The eco-friendly resort occupies a low rise on Isla Bastimentos, surrounded by mangroves and boasting awesome ocean and jungle views. Six free standing cabanas have tile floors, local hardwood furnishings, granite bathroom counters, and comfy beds. All have air conditioning, but no TV, radio, or phone. An entertainment room in the main lodge has TV and a collection of movies and books. Meals are included and get rave reviews, incorporating many local fruits, vegetables, and seafood. No matter what the outing, keep your eyes peeled for sloths, capuchin monkeys, dolphins, and Panama's famous multicolored frogs. All in all, Tranquilo Bay appeals equally to families as to honeymooners, and offers an experience you're not likely to forget.
