The Spread:
Just over two hours from Toronto, Canada's Blue Mountain Resort is great whatever the season. Blue is designed as a sort of quaint cottage community but with very modern facilities and a base village including restaurants.

Ride the open-air gondola up the mountain, then bike, hike, or ride back down. Head to the resort's private beach (ten minutes away) on the shores of Georgian Bay, or for more adrenaline-pumping water action, there's the Raft-Rider Tube Ride.

The mix of homes, condos, and hotel rooms gives you options. Among the best bets for families: Seasons at Blue and Weider Lodge, which both offer full kitchens. Seasons has 137 rooms that range from studios to three-bedroom suites and a kids' movie theater right off the lobby; Weider has 91 suites, rustic mountain-lodge ambience, and views of mountain bikers tearing down the slopes.

You name it, Blue has it—sailing, fly-fishing, paddleboats, mountain biking, caving, climbing, eco-adventures, golf, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, even off-road Hummer adventures that take you into Georgian Bay's backcountry, a must-do for teens. There are tennis camps for ages seven to 15 and golf clinics for ages six and up (junior clubs available at no extra cost for beginners), in addition to similar clinics for adults. If all you want to do is lie in the sun on the beach, you can do that, too. Best of all, with the convenience of the resort's Activity Central, you can book what you want when you want in one place.

The Mountain Bike Adventure Program is for ages eight to 12, while the Kids' Adventure Camp has childcare for ages 18 months to 12 years (7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.). Older kids enjoy themed weeks such as Beach Bummin' and Silly Science Camp. Half-day options are available, and, if there's space, you can book hourly childcare (camp rates $32 to $44 per day depending on age).
