We prefer this tranquil bastion of luxury even to the Palace itself. These three elegant buildings, the oldest of which was erected in 1760, were taken over in 1856 by Johannes Badrutt, who was the first to encourage British vacationers to come to the Alps and who went on to establish Badrutt's Palace. In 1878 it became the first building in Switzerland to have electricity, and it was the center of the Olympic Games in 1928 and 1948. Over the years the Kulm has hosted royalty from all over the world, including the kings and queens of industry and entertainment. It still draws a sedate clientele, those who deliberately shun the more ostentatious Badrutt's Palace. The public rooms are beautifully paneled, with vaulted ceilings. The spacious bedrooms are grand classics, with traditional furnishings, generous closet space, and luxury beds; tiled bathrooms have dual marble basins, heated towel racks, and robes. Fantastically set in the mountain village St. Moritz overlooking the lake and mountain scenery of the Engadine Valley. Only walking distance to the shopping area and the nearest ski lift. Bob Run and Cresta Run are only 5 minutes walking distance as well as the golf course in the summer. The hotel represents the "highest hotel" (above sea level) in the area and is also the first hotel of St. Moritz.
