Opened in 1913 and owned by E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, this has the grandest accommodations in town. The 12-story Italian Renaissance structure in the heart of the city is a showcase of marble, coffered ceilings, carved walnut, and genteel service. Each unit was updated in 2007 with new fabrics (du Pont's latest fibers, of course) and fixtures. They're spacious and luxurious, with comfortable sitting areas. Corner suites are even grander, with living and dining rooms. Two floors of smaller "Visionary rooms" have a contemporary flair for the younger set—and a smaller room rate, a nice value at a luxury hotel.
