This is one of D.C.'s finest hotels, and certainly its most famous. From its magnificent lobby and grand Willard Room restaurant, favorite settings for movie directors, to its illustrious history, which includes the fact that two presidents (Lincoln in 1861, Coolidge in 1923) lived here for a while, the Willard warrants visiting, even if you don't stay here. But if you do stay here, you'll find you're perfectly situated near the White House, Smithsonian museums, excellent restaurants, and theaters.

Guest rooms present a handsome decor, heavy on reproduction Federal- and Edwardian-style furnishings. The rooms with the best views are the oval suites overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol and the rooms fronting Pennsylvania Avenue. Rooms facing the courtyard are the quietest.
