Waikiki Travel Tips

  • If you're staying in Waikiki, don't rent a car because there are few places to park one, and parking itself is expensive. Also, the bus is a very cheap alternative.
  • The shopping in Waikiki is phenomenal. The International Marketplace and the Waikiki Beach Walk are tourist hotspots, but locals still flock to this area for clothes, jewelry, and just about anything else you can imagine.
  • You won't go hungry in Waikiki. Dining is at its finest in this part of Oahu. For a real treat, go to the 30th floor of the Sheraton and enjoy Twist.
  • Waikiki Beach is good for all levels of surfers (although the real pros head to Oahu's North Shore for the big stuff). Waikiki's Hans Hedemann Surf School, operated by its namesake pro surfer, offers introductory, two-hour lessons for first-timers in front of the Waikiki Parc Hotel.
