Oahu Parks and Outdoors Travel Tips

  • Oahu is a great place to fish for big marlin, as well as ahi, mahi mahi, and ono. Located ten miles offshore, the buildings of Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu begin to fade, leaving a whole new look of Oahu from the sea. That's where you begin to lure your catch-of-the day and hope that you'll be able to reel her in!
  • Oahu—Hawaii's sport fishing capital—is home to legendary tales of hour-long fights and angry marlin soaring above the ocean waters to fight off a lure. Fishing experts agree that Hawaiian marlin fishing is a team sport and selecting an experienced crew is crucial.
  • Hawaiian deep-sea fishing centers around floaters and FADs (Fish Aggregation Devices). The floaters—or flotsam, as anglers call them—act as nurseries for many ocean species. Where there is food, you will find big predators.
