  • Venture inside the island for the best snorkeling; the area offers protected lagoons for hundreds of different fish. One third of the species are indigenous to Kauai.

  • Swim with colorful parrot fish at Lydgate Park, a man-made lagoon near Wailua on the East Side.
  • Mind the outgoing tide at Anini Beach on the North Shore, the largest reef on Kauai.
  • Find Ke'e at the road's end before the Na Pali Coast. Pacific green sea turtles often congregate beyond the inshore reef of this popular summer spot.
