  • Kite Beach, at the western end of Kanaha Beach, is one of the world's premiere kiteboarding spots (hence, the moniker).
  • Wind funnels through the valley between the West Maui Mountains and Haleakala at ten to 20 mph year-round.
  • Protective barriers and side-onshore winds at Kite Beach keep beginners on calm waters. Seasoned riders can venture farther out for breaking waves and strong winds.
  • The "11 o'clock rule" prohibits kiteboarding and windsurfing on Maui's waters before 11 a.m. to accommodate swimmers and fisherman.

  • What is the best, easiest, CHEAPEST way to get from Hana to Kipahulu, Maui? I will be on Maui for two days in Sept. 2010, all I want to see is the Palapala Ho'omau Church, my Father's favorite place on Earth ! Are there busses up there (I doubt) or tours that include it ? PLEASE HELP !
