French Riviera Beach Travel Tips

Be sure to make reservations far in advance for July and especially August, when many of the French take their holidays. Also remember that both the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix happen in May.
Nice's beaches are nearly all pebbles: Be sure to bring strong sandals and a mat if you plan to sunbathe there.
Cannes' beaches are controlled by the town's luxury hotels, which charge steep prices for chairs and umbrellas.
Although most of the French Riviera's beaches are crowded, on the coast's western edge near the town of Théoule-sur-Mer, you may be able to find private, rocky coves hidden down long sets of stairs.
Don't bring valuables to the beach—sneaky thieves have been known to steal items while people swim.
