  • For those windsurfers (and kitesurfers) looking for wind versus waves, the protected lagoons of Tahiti are ideal, with shallow waters and little ocean chop.
  • Tahiti itself is the island with the most consistent year-round windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions in French Polynesia. Venus Point is the most popular spot for both on the isle.
  • In the drier months of June through September, the southeasterly Maraamu tradewinds blow consistently, averaging between 15 and 25 knots per hour, making this the most popular windsurfing season.
  • Quick French lesson: Don’t confuse what the French call “flysurfing” with windsurfing. The term flysurfing in Tahiti means kiteboarding.

Tahiti's main island is located in the windward group of the Society Islands and is, confusingly, also named Tahiti.
