Christine Loomis Biography
Biography
Christine Loomis has traveled extensively in Europe, and once spent a month with her children exploring France and Italy by train, boat, van, bicycle, and foot. The family favorite? Piloting their own boat along the canals of southern France, though hiking in the Dolomites and finding a small, wonderfully family-friendly hotel as a home base were close seconds. If you ask her son, who was ten at the time, riding high-speed trains-to anywhere-would also be at the top of the list, and cultural opportunities notwithstanding, so would the Mediterranean's topless beaches. Christine, whose children are now 16, 19, and 25, is the author of three family-travel guidebooks, Fodor's Family Adventures, Fodor's Around Denver with Kids, and Simplify Family Travel. She writes frequently for publications including Family Fun, AAAEncompass, Endless Vacation, Diversion, and Copley News Service among others, is a former editor on staff at Parents and Family Life magazines, and former editor-in-chief of Scientific American's Explorations. Christine sees in Europe nearly endless possibilities for engaging families, not the least of which are its enduring sites that can't help but amaze and stir the imagination of all ages-Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, the British Museum, the Tower of London, and the incredible natural beauty of the continent's mountain ranges and valleys, among many others. Her advice to any family with kids of any ages exploring Europe: always eat at sidewalk cafes, or pick up picnic food at the small cheese, produce, and pastry shops to enjoy in one of Europe's many inviting parks.
