Puerto Plata Snorkeling Travel Tips

  • You’ll want to combine a snorkel boat trip with whale watching (particularly to Samana Bay and Banco de la Plata) from January to March.
  • The beaches in and around Puerto Plata are fronted by coral reefs, but check with your resort about the tides, as the shallow low tide makes swimming tricky.
  • Many dive operators take snorkelers to some excellent sites further out, including the Sosua National Marine Sanctuary.
  • With water temperatures in the 70s and 80s year-round, you may never want to get out of the ocean.
