  • The Air Force isn't the only thing that soars over Colorado Springs. Glider rides, rentals, and instructors are typically found in Black Forest, which is a community 50 miles northeast of Colorado Springs.
  • If you've always wanted to take a hot air balloon ride, this may be the place to do it. With views of Pikes Peak to the west and of the plains to the east, you'll see why "America the Beautiful" was penned in Colorado Springs. Launches last approximately two to three hours and cost depends on the number of passengers, the event, and the locations to be seen.
  • Pick from one of the hundreds of routes in Garden of the Gods. It's one of the best climbing spots in Colorado Springs, but expect lots of spectators as it's also one of the big tourist attractions in town. Low elevation compared to some other local climbs makes for a long season. Check for rules and permit information, and then take a paved path to one of the red sandstone formations.
  • Nearby Red Rock Canyon Open Space also hosts many routes on smooth sandstone. There are fewer tourists here, yet there is a good amount of the smooth red rock found in this area.
  • Colorado Springs is close to some of the best whitewater river rafting in the country. The Arkansas River provides few calm sections, and everything upstream of Canyon City is prime for continuous whitewater fun.
