  • Don shades at Black's Beach, known more for nude sunbathers than surfing. Nudity aside, the large surf and powerful beach breaks attract surfers (in swimsuits, of course).
  • Bring shoes with traction; it's a long, steep hike down to the beach.
  • Novice surfers should avoid Windansea Beach, as surf breaks are filled with pros jockeying for waves.
  • Pay a visit to the "Sugar Shack," an open-air, grass-roofed hut built in the early 1940s.
