Avoid lines at the "Happiest Place on Earth" with Disneyland's Fastpass. Slide your ticket into a Fastpass machine at the start of any queue and it'll print out a time you can return and still board, giving you more time to explore the Mouse House.
Take the highway to the danger zone at the Flightdeck Air Combat Center. Log some time in the flight simulator, piloting an F-16 fighter jet in air-to-air combat from a realistic cockpit.
Disneyland makes the headlines, but equally good (and a touch cheaper) is Knott's Berry Farm, a collection of twisting roller coasters, log rides, and waterslides located in Buena Park just east of Long Beach.
Hit the Huntington Beach Pier for the best surfing, but beware the crowds, especially at the end of July when the U.S. Open of Surfing comes to town.
Grind a rail at the skatepark in The Block at Orange mall in the city of Orange. The indoor park, sponsored by Vans, features empty concrete pools, half-pipes, and handrails.
