Sacramento Travel Tips

  • Catch a glimpse of "Governator" Arnold Schwarzenegger (or his soon-to-be-elected successor), and take a tour of the mosaic floors and lush botanical gardens at the State Capitol.
  • All aboard for the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento. Take a ride on an authentic antique train and tour the exhibits retelling the state's track history.
  • Go back in time in historic neighborhoods like Folsom, Fair Oaks, and Elk Grove. In Folsom, find relics of the past in the antique shops lining Sutter Street.
  • Groove to local musicians at free outdoor concerts in one of the city's parks. Harmony on the River takes place in River Walk Park, and Friday-night concerts run all summer in Cesar Chavez Park downtown.
  • Rappel 165 feet down into Moaning Cavern—California's largest underground vertical chamber—at the Sutter Gold Mine.

Within the past decade it's also become a receptacle of high-tech spillover from Silicon Valley, and more recently, a suburb for Bay Area workers seeking affordable homes. As such, the quantity and quality of downtown restaurants—such as the Esquire Grill and The Waterboy—have greatly improved. Read More
