During summer, when the ocean is calm, this beach is good for swimming and snorkeling.
Wintertime is big-wave surfing season.
Sunset hosts three major surf tournaments: the Duke Kahanamoku Classic, the O'Neill World Cup, and Quiksilver's Big Wave Invitational.

Description:

Come here for the big-time surfing on the North Shore; waves reach 15 to 20 feet from September to April. And bring your long board, as waves break differently on every swell. Observe all warning signs including one for the Sunset Rip, a dangerous riptide current that occasionally appears offshore.
