Visitor Information
Description:
The building alone makes this a memorable place. It's striking in its bold use of black, yellow, and red in a distinctly modern design. Inside, the museum is much more personal, detailing individual stories of African-American Marylanders such as Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall, gymnast Dominique Dawes, musician Cab Calloway, and religious leader Mother Mary Elizabeth Langeexhibits designed to give children examples of African Americans who were successful in spite of poverty, discrimination, and poor schooling. On-site are a gift shop and cafe. Contact Frommers
