Traveling from Flagstaff on AZ 89A you will get a glimpse of Oak Creek Canyon at Oak Creek Vista, which also provides a view of Sedona and beyond. Continue down toward Sedona by way of switchbacks that stretch out to an easy driving course, the great scenery rivals that of the Grand Canyon.
Dead Horse Ranch State Park, in the Verde Valley just southwest of Sedona, has some nice fishing along the Verde River. An added bonus, there are also more than 100 bird species, including the Bald Eagle in the winter season. A day use fee is in effect.
Boynton Canyon is located eight miles west of Sedona. On the way there you can see Capitol Butte, Coffee Pot Rock, and Three Golden Chiefs rock formations. At Boynton Canyon, hike from one of the many trailheads or stop at the Enchantment Resort. The area is considered the ancient birthplaces of the Yavapai Apache and the remnants of some Sinagua dwellings can be found here.
Cave Springs Campground in the Coconino National Forest is 13 miles north of Sedona in Oak Creek Canyon. There are 82 sites, 11 can be reserved. The season is mid-April to mid-October. Activities include fishing, swimming in the creek, hiking and wildlife viewing.

we are driving from pheonix to sedona and staying in sedona 3 dys, going to the grand canyoun south rim and then on to Las vegas for another 2 dys. I am looking for recommendations on scenic drives to and around these areas.

Sedona Jan 02 /09 My wifes big 50 is in Jan. we are going to Sedona for 6 days My 2 adult married daughters are ditching their better halfs for this spec occasion. What could we do to make this big 50 memorable in Sedona, We are adventourous but not crazy, Any suggestions.
