Mar del Plata Beach Travel Tips

Remember, Argentina is in the southern hemisphere, which means that winter in the United States is summer there. Mar del Plata's high season lasts from late December through February. You'll find less crowded beaches in late November and March.
Mar del Plata's beaches get very crowded, especially the public beaches. However, select hotels have their own private beach areas with towel, chair, and bar service to keep you away from the masses.
The beaches of Pinamar and Carilo, with their pine-covered dunes, provide better cover for the fair skinned and sun averse.
Carilo's exclusive nature lends itself to apartment and housing rentals rather than hotels. You should plan your visit in advance, as rentals book up early.
In Buenos Aires, if you hear people talking about "Mardel" they are referring to Mar del Plata.

Mar del Plata has been Argentina's favorite beach resort for more than a century. Historically, it was almost exclusively for the very wealthy—many former summer mansions still exist amidst the ubiquitous high rises. By the 1950's, with Juan and Evita Peron in power, a more egalitarian resort town developed: Unions built summer retreats, completely changing the makeup of the town.
