  • Launch from the historical village of Talkeetna on a relaxing guided float tour on the Susitna River. Weather permitting, this tour offers extensive views of Denali as well as glacial valley vistas. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, bear, and moose on the river's edge.
  • Join Talkeetna Travel and fly directly onto snow-covered glaciers in ski-equipped, fixed-wing airplanes as you explore the glaciated Talkeetna area. Climbers and naturalists give presentations on the glaciated mountain environment.
  • Denali Trekking Company's seven-day trek through the Talkeetna Mountains emphasizes Leave No Trace camping techniques. It's an important part of traveling through the fragile alpine zones. While you learn, you'll also get to check out jagged peaks, glorious lakes, and maybe even a Dall sheep, caribou, or grizzly bear.
  • The lower Talkeetna River provides a soft rafting experience designed for all age groups. See spectacular vistas of the Alaska Range and Denali. Look for bears, eagles, fish, beavers, moose, fox, and waterfowl during this float. Stop to visit two active Bald Eagles' nests, see beaver dams, and look for bear tracks.

Talkeetna Travel Guide

Talkeetna, a historic and funky little town with a sense of humor but not much happening, slept soundly from its decline around World War I until about a decade ago. Now there are paved streets (both of them), a fancy National Park Service building, a larger railroad depot, and two large luxury lodges. It seems that while Talkeetna slumbered in a time capsule, an explosion of visitors was happening at Denali National Park.
